The Paragard IUD is a non-hormonal, long-term birth control device, which prevents pregnancy through a reaction caused by copper contained in the device. Since the device works without relying upon the release of hormones, it remains effective without disturbance for a very long time—up to 10 years. Moreover, the product is highly effective, preventing 99% of pregnancies in those receiving treatment.

Implanted birth control devices such as the Paragard IUD are growing in popularity as a reversible contraceptive. However, women have reported serious medical complications surrounding their usage. Upon implantation, the device can perforate or damage the uterus, leading to infection and scarring. ParaGard may cause Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, an infection of the uterus, tubes and nearby organs.
