Ozemptic and Mounjaro – Gastroparesis

Ozempic and Mounjaro Gastroparesis Lawsuits

Injury claims are now being investigated by Neumann Law Group for those who have been prescribed the medications Ozempic and/or Mounjaro for diabetes and/or weight loss and have suffered from severe gastrointestinal distress. Ozempic and Mounjaro are approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of those with diabetes to help produce insulin and lower blood sugar. It discovered by doctors that Ozempic and Mounjaro are also extremely effective in weight loss, and many began prescribing them for this purpose without FDA approval.

Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of Ozempic, also markets and sells a medication called Wegovy. It is FDA approved for weight loss only; however, Wegovy contains the same active ingredients as Ozempic and has the potential for similar risk. There are more drugs to be cautious of including Rybelsus, Trulicity, and Saxenda. Again, these medications that were initially designed for treatment of diabetes, were later marketed to consumers as a weight loss ‘cure’. These medications are also all manufactured by either Novo Nordisk or Eli Lilly & Co. Lawsuits against the manufacturers with respect to these drugs could be a future possibility.

The manufacturers of Ozempic, Novo Nordisk, and Mounjaro, Eli Lilly & Co., failed to warn patients or their doctors of the possible dangers in taking these medications. The likelihood of widespread damage to other patients that may lead to additional legal claims is significant.

Gastroparesis

Gastroparesis

Gastroparesis is basically paralysis of the stomach. Even without any blockage in the intestines, gastroparesis causes digestion to slow or even stop. Symptoms of gastroparesis can include feeling full right after beginning to eat and for a long time after a meal, severe nausea and vomiting, and stomach cramps. There are other potential side effects from taking Ozempic and/or Mounjaro including thyroid tumors, pancreatitis, vision problems, low blood sugar, gallbladder issues, kidney failure, eating disorders, and cancers.

There is no cure for gastroparesis and treatment options are limited. A patient may require feeding tubes, electronic gastrointestinal stimulator implant, medications for nausea and vomiting, and medications for stomach stimulation.

Woman being checked by a doctor

A lawsuit was filed in the summer of 2023, against Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly and Co., the manufacturers of Ozempic and Mounjaro, respectfully. This complaint states that the manufacturers of Ozempic and Mounjaro failed to warn patients and their doctors of the possible dangers in taking these medications. The injured party in this case, who was prescribed both Ozempic and Mounjaro, had to go to the emergency room several times and even lost teeth due to the intensity of her vomiting. Another potential claimant ended up in intensive care due to her inability to keep even liquids down without vomiting. There are currently no suits specifically involving Wegovy, Rybelsus, Trulicity, or Saxenda, but consumers should be aware of any adverse symptoms that may develop while using it.
