A number of pressure cookers have been recalled. For example, in 2006, Welbilt recalled 900 pressure cookers after the company received 37 complaints from consumers who suffered serious burns, including at least four incidences resulting in third-degree burns.

In 2007, Manttra recalled over 38,000 pressure cookers to address a similar design defect that allowed hot contents within the unit to spill out. That same year, Bella Cucina Zip issued a recall of 8,300 pressure cookers after receiving consumer complains that the cookers exploded causing burn injuries.

A few years later, in 2015, Breville USA recalled approximately 36,000 of their 6-quart electric pressure cookers due to concerns over the sealing gasket unexpectedly releasing built-up pressure, increasing the risk of explosions and burns. And then in 2017, Aldi recalled the Crofton Chef Collection’s 6-liter pressure cooker following reports that the lids could pop off under pressure, resulting in an explosion.

Most recently, in 2023, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) announced a multi-brans pressure cooker recall affecting about 860,000 pressure cookers due to the potential burn risk these models present. The 2023 pressure cooker recall affects Bella, Bella Pro Series, Crux, and Cooks electric pressure cookers in the 6, 8, and 10-quart capacities. The recall also impacts the 5, 8, and 12-quart Bella stovetop pressure cookers.

What Are the Most Common Pressure Cooker Injuries?

Burns: The contents of the cooker are usually extremely hot. If these come into contact with the skin, they can cause first-, second-, or third-degree burns.
